Entrevista
NECROVAMPIRISM
1. Nocturnal Hails DNS Horde!!! The first of all. Could you introduce us in the story of your band. Works, Members…etc? Did the band members play in other bands in the past?
DNS:
Opening the grimoir of Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult dates back to the accursed year of 1997. Founding members Onielar (vox+git) as well as Ariovist (drums) were reinforced by Velnias (git) merely six months later. The vacant bass player position was occupied by session member Grigorr. The first official release - the first unholy chapter of pure fucking black metal entitled "The Pest Called Humanity" was unleashed in 1999. As Ariovist turned more and more into a human being his departure was unavoidable. Slaughtercult's true, rotten core was reduced to Onielar and Velnias. These two proud individuals finished their second blasphemous work in 2001. "Follow the Calls for Battle" was manifested once again relying on the faithful services of Grigorr. Session member on war drums was Horrn. This warrior however successfully conquered the drum throne shortly after the release of the second chapter, thus achieving the status of a permanent horde member. 2002, in order to finally accomplish a complete line-up Emporonorr replaced Grigorr on bass. This legion was able to spawn a split mini LP "Underneath Stars of the East" in 2003, which has been succeeded but the current album "Nocturnal March" in 2004. These are the important facts concerning the biography. It does not matter if Slaughtercult is or was involved in any other hordes…. It is the musical spirit which speaks for itself! Every horde which is not able to achieve a certain "status" within the "scene" on its own is simply not worth mentioning!
2. Your last album: "Nocturnal March" is in my opinion the best of all your stuff, Are you satisfied with the sound? Why do you decided self-released the album with "Propaganda records"? and Which is the actual label?
DNS:
Believe or not Slaughtercult has stayed independent since day one. We have received dozens of contract offers from all over the world. Yet, we have stayed loyal to our original believe. We are our own horned master, we hold the "strings" tight in our iron fist and command the Slaughtercult legion afar the well tread out path of usual herd oriented, mass compatible trendy "black metal". Every release is absolutely self produced!!! We have "signed" a mental war pact with Black Blood for our vinyl versions. Propaganda Records took care of the tape release of the last two albums. Everything else is completely released on our own. Slaughtercult remains unsigned due to our own choice!
3. What's the concept behind Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult name, is your name a tribute to the obscurity?
DNS:
Obscurity? Yes, to some extend! The moniker reflects a union of great powers, such powers which bear no name! Their nature is arcane and beyond human recognition. During a midnight mass these forces are combined with pencilled vigour of a self crowned I. This triumphant enthronement of utter darkness, this coronation of anti human believes gives birth to a minimalist existence of "two fundamental worlds". Any of these "worlds" is ruled supreme by the individuals of "Slaughtercult". These multiple worlds exist within the shadow of spiritual self ascendance. They are constantly orbiting the innermost abysmal void - the very spirit - in order to keep a balance between the ever flowing stream of cosmic decay and the constant progress of ascendance. Such a union demands a unique name!
4. I have noticed the voice of Onielar very similar to the first albums of Astarte' s band from Greece. What do you think that are the best Black Metal bands with female members?
DNS:
Although, we are not very familiar with Astarte, it is safe to assume that this is more of an insult then praising!!! Furthermore is it not the way of Slaughtercult to follow mere human gender reduction! May it be known that death - symbolizing the occult - has many faces, as well as numerous shapes! These are not just male or female!!! We appreciate the individuals behind the music, or the spirit of the "music" itself. What is more important than that? Who honestly gives a fuck if that is a "female" or "male" person? Those supporting Slaughtercult because of Onielars' presence have still not understood one of the fundamental ideas of this horde - they might as well abandon our ranks immediately.
5. The cover of "Nocturnal March" album is really cool, who's the painter? I have read that the band is searching for new painters. Which are the kind of paint/picture that you're looking for your next album?
DNS:
"Nocturnal March" was plagiarized from some art book. Each cover has to be carefully chosen as it is a visualization of the manifested audio material. The original painting was readjusted and digitally altered in order to fit our needs. The painter's name has been covered by dust and time. As we have used more or less the same style during our history most likely the future will bring more medieval inspired cover artwork. Furthermore most likely we will stay with the black and white design only! As all previous releases are openly available artworks, we have decided to have someone draw individual, unique paintings for us. This way we can assure that no one else will have the same artwork!
6. What do you think about Vinyl and cassette format? And about the limited copies, 7'' eps…? Is DNS an traditional band, respect to support the Underground, you know… Fanzines, Cassettes, Vinyls, Limited Hand numbered copies…?
DNS:
Our darkened release history shows that we have supported all versions. We offer CDs, MCs, LPs (mLP, 7", gatefold LP)… we have answered interviews from Xeroxed fanzines with a very low quantity all the way to major zines. What we partially regret is the limitation of some releases. Simply due to the fact that many fucking greedy human lowlifes are now offering these releases either as internet auctions or way too expensive in their mailorder catalogue. Fuck them!!! Let them choke on every single cent they are trying to make! Slaughtercult is and will remain an underground horde, we will not forget our "roots".
7. Which is for you the true meaning of Black Metal and what represent the figure of Satan and Baphomet?
DNS:
Black Metal is a way of life which is used to enrich the already developed (although still progressing) character. If Black Metal is simply adopted by an individual, then its true essence is not suitable for that person. The self crowned I does not rely upon Black Metal - it can certainly live without it. Yet, nevertheless it will certainly miss its powerful tongue. A tongue which is able to reach the "inner worlds". It may devour all splendour of life and yet, even on the controversy give birth to another state of "life". It does not withhold the elementary cosmic strength to create and destroy. This thought does not necessarily aim directly at human made terms such as "Satan" or "Baphomet", although the entwining of Black Metal and the Occult is without the shadow of a doubt present. However, Slaughtercult does not believe or in that case bows down before any man made, personalized "deities". Them "Gods" and "Demons" thou hast to suffer from are those of the utmost sovereign "king" … who indifferent looks down upon mankind,… for insignificant they are to him. This vivid description now points back to the aforementioned self coronation of the I. Now, who is the sovereign king which judges upon your own life?
8. And the humanity… What do you think about humanity. Really think that is a pest?
DNS:
Slaughtercult is still at war with humanity. Thus quoting the first nihilistic chapter "The Pest Called Humanity" is still up to date: "Humanity, just like Christianity or any godfucking shit - the greatest Pest. Thus we shall not surrender nor stop 'til we've wiped out these minor creatures and rid the world of the Pest called humanity!"
Humanity is the cancerous disease, the festering ulcer of planet earth - if not the entire universe!
9. You have a couple of splits with bands like Pyre and Donkelheet. What do you think about these bands?
DNS:
These hordes have been chosen by us! The masterminds of these two hordes, may that be the "US antichrist horde" Pyre or Donkelheet's "misanthropic Black Metal from dark forest of Luxemburgum", are personally known to us. That is the first prerequisite in order to unleash a split release with Slaughtercult. Certainly we do not agree one hundred percent with everything these individuals do or say, but nevertheless they are part of those few respectable persons in the foul reeking swamp called "worldwide scene".
10. I have noticed several Medieval influences in your lyrics and in your music too, many war drums, bells and Battle rhythm. Do you like the Medieval times? Which are your favourite historic period? And what do you think about death? Do you think in the death frequently?
DNS:
Certainly one of the more fascinating historic chapters is the dark medieval times. Truly grim ages! Even nowadays their ruins speak of those times long gone by. Dwelling within their shadow makes them whisper tales of heresy, superstition and yes utter death. Magic literally still fills the air at those places. While sitting atop them ancient spires of chaos taking a deep breath is certainly cleansing of the "soul". However every time period shows just one thing! It lies within the nature of man to wage war against himself. It is unavoidable for him to turn against his "brothers and sisters". Tracing the unsilent drops of blood will take you back to the very dawn of mankind. This violent behaviour has created many interesting time periods. All historical time spans are showing that the "beast" has been and always will be unleashed!!! One critical point concerning death is the understanding of the following phrase: Without Life Even Death May Die! Life and death, even fate itself is a slave to the merciless force known as "time". Thus, there is merely one thing the unprepared mind has to be aware of: time is constantly passing us by. Having mastered the "ever flowing stream" life and death as we know it will loose all importance. They are rendered useless due to the absence of time. Shall cosmic decay cause the end of "time"?? What was the cause for it in the first place? The abscondence of existence, the denial of time - are not these the important questions to ask?
11. Humanity have a lot of several enemies. What do you think that is or was the worst enemy of mankind: Medieval Pest, Atomic Bombs, the same men that is wolf for the men?
DNS:
How many millions of bleating human sheep are on this overpopulated planet? Is not every single one a threat to mankind? What is a greater threat, the all devastating military force or the slowly creeping death of sexual diseases? Who is the greater evil the mass murdering rapist or the medical assistant who is pro euthanasia? Which catastrophe will strike next… a volcano blowing tons of ashes into the upper spheres darkening the sun for years to come, a flood or earthquake ridding a continent of the surface… or will it be some sort of outer terrestrial intervention? Who knows…. Just one thing can be certain: Mankind is already heading down the road to self annihilation.
12. I have several questions about some of your songs: "Towards Berzenelon". What's Berzenelon?, "Ars Moriendi". Do you like Latin and other dead languages?, "The dead hate the living". Actually exist one Horror movie called "The dead hate the living" is from USA by Fullmoon prod, is based this song in the movie?
DNS:
Going through the lyrical scrolls of enlightenment you will stumble across several languages. For instance there is English, German, Polish and indeed Latin. Whenever one of the human languages fails to express the intended emotion or "sound" Slaughtercult relies upon the most powerful tongue of "neologisms". Words like "Berzenelon", "Cimonar" or "Tulwod" are part of this inhumane vocabulary. Their meanings are not made public. Read and understand the lyrics, find the truth in between the lines and you will be able to figure out what they express. "The Dead Hate the Living" is a title which seemed suitable. After the recordings we noticed in some horror movie zine that there is already a movie named the same. Now for the first time we hear that Full Moon Prod also made a movie with that title. In no way our track or the lyrics is inspired by either one of those movies. Pure coincidence… it is not our intention to copy someone else!! If that ever happens we have no problem officially saying this and that person or piece of artwork has inspired us.
13. My zine is about horror movies too. Do you like horror movies? Any director of film in particular?
DNS:
While movies in general, just like TV, is a waste of time specific categories still hold a certain value. Horror movies need to convince by either sheer violence or a very morbid atmosphere. They are some classic movies as well as some "modern" ones which are, well "entertaining". … lately especially Japanese horror movies were able to convince us by a rather sick atmosphere!
14. And about literature… Do you like "Sword & Sorcery" or writers like R.E.Howard, Michael Moorcock or Tolkien?
DNS:
Both R.E. Howard and M. Moorcock are not to be found in our book shelves. Tolkien somewhat claims the throne of fantasy as his works have influenced many not just Scandinavian "Black Metal" hordes. However, Howard's "Conan" series and other novels can probably easily compete with the more popular authors. The majority of our library is filled by rather so called "sealed books". Although, there are still some fantasy books left from some years ago, most of them have been replaced by ones with more practical suitability.
15. Germany is a land with a lot of Metal Bands. Which are your favourites? And what do you think about other bands likes: Moonblood, Katharsis, Nacthfalke, Absurd, Necrofrost, Desaster, Winterblut… Are the members of DNS involved in any other band? What do you think about the Black Metal scene in Spain? Have you been any time in my country?
DNS:
Germany is a country with too many bands! The few noteworthy formations are totally outnumbered by the superfluous side projects and wanna be bands. We are not going to recommend any bands, furthermore it is of no importance if any Slaughtercult members are or have been involved in any musical activities other than DNS. The scene has turned into a foul reeking swamp … every band has to find its own way through the mass flooding of unnecessary releases. Truly dedicated hordes will do so and do not need to be mentioned. Of those bands you have listed there is merely one band which comes close to our taste and definition of Black Metal! Concerning your country… there is just one name to be mentioned "Primigenium"… and that's it.
16. About gigs and live shows? It was a good experience? Do you think that perhaps sometime you will came to play in Spain?
DNS:
Merciless, bloodstained live battles have been part of our history for some years now. Some gigs were far from being good experiences. Being stage active sometimes unfortunately allows a more detailed insight on the glorious "scene". Illusions are completely destroyed, just by meeting so called "cults" in person. Unbelievable what kind of filthy human scum is hyped by the majority of "consumers". It is also quit disappointing how some of the Scandinavian forefathers behave like fucking rock stars. Not have they just betrayed the once proud circles of an underground movement, in addition they have grown into cocky assholes. Slaughtercult is not backed up by some sort of booking agency, furthermore we can obviously not make a living out of selling records and merchandise, thus we do not have much time besides weekends to play a gig or two. None of the organizers in distant countries will take the financial risk of booking an extreme underground act! Just like we tell our fellow combatants in other countries: it is your duty to torment these organizers until they agree to open hells gates and invite a pure fucking black metal horde into their home country!
17. I love the hair of Onielar, is really long!!! Just to headbanging!!! What do you think about Black Metal Look: Corpse paint, bullets, spikes and leather. I think that is very important keep the flame of the true underground Metal. What do you think about the people that said that look is not important? (I think that is important inside, the first, but outside too).
DNS:
As we were not asked if we would like to receive or resent the "precious gift of life", none of us can be blamed for the "outside". If you were beaten with the "ugly stick" - hey, shit happens! Both the inner values as well as the appearance are personal objective views. The spirit of "black metal" is something which is carried deep within, the outer appearance of black leather, spikes, bullet belts etc is more or less not more than a personal "liking". As every legion has a certain type of unitary clothing it has grown to be an unspoken "standard". As Slaughtercult values the individual, it is the "inside" which is tolerated, or not! Being the sheep in wolf's clothing will not make you part of "black metal"!!!
18. Do you like go to the cemetery in the dark foggy nights? What do you feel when you're inside? Did you feel the essence of the death anytime?
DNS:
Every deserted place holds a certain value. A cemetery might emanate a stronger gloomy atmosphere due to its ever present touch of death. This transience of life however is not bound to the realm beyond the cemetery gates. It is a feeling, a mere thought which awakes at any place at any time as long as the mind is open for it. For previously mentioned reasons it is not life or death which is to fear - time is the worst enemy of all!
19. What do you think about wolves? I think that represent the true spirit of nature, something very appropriate to the Black Metal lyrics and concept. Do you like Viking Myths that talk about Fenris, for example, or the German saga of the Sigfried and the Nibelungs?
DNS:
"Sometimes at the dead of the night, ... visions, prophecies and horrors they all come as one". All Myths and legends behold partial truth. Some may read as vivid narrations, while others seem purely fictional. It is not a question of "liking" but more of "faith". If a certain myth appeals to your own individual thought patterns you will be able to reveal the truth in between the lines. Slaughtercult's lyrical concept is based on own experiences with the Occult in general. No "Viking Myths" no "political orientation". As the occult has many shapes and faces, the wolf may just be one of them.
20. I love the castles and all the past ruins, old monuments and similars. Which are the best Castle or the most beautiful that you have seen in Germany?
DNS:
Certainly there are too many ruins and castles spread all over Germany. For instance, just following the river Rhein to the south you will come across some ruined castles around every corner. The best and most beautiful places are those which are more or less untouched. Unfortunately some of these castles have been rearranged to touristic culture excursion points. The more deserted places are the destination of our "nocturnal marches". Those are also the background to capture a medieval atmosphere within our release's visualizations.
21. Do you like go to summer festivals likes W.O.A or similars? Do you know any other Underground festival where play True Black Metal bands? Because Wacken in the last days not are so good than any years ago!
DNS:
No, we despise huge festivals! Too many bands - too many humans which are attracted by them. 5 bands are already the very top - we will make exceptions only if there is an interesting horde on the line-up. Slaughtercult's heart pounds for small venue atmosphere!
22. Future plans?
DNS:
Certainly,… at the moment beyond the walls of our Saldorian stronghold Slaughtercult is preparing the 4th chapter. Although, this release is still far away at the blackened horizon but for certain a new storm will arise. At the same time we are playing selected gigs in and outside of Germany to promote the latest release "Nocturnal March".
23. Ok, this interview is finished! The last lines are for you…
