Bloodaxe Nr. 3, December 2000

DARKENED NOCTURN SLAUGHTERCULT is truly a good and promising newcomer in the black metal-scene (in the proper meaning of the term), so an interview was never far away. Here's Velnias (guitar) with the whole story about the how and why of the band...

1 Hail Velnias! Can you give us a little history of the band?

Slaughtercult was spawned during the grim winter months of 1997 by Onielar as well as Ariovist. The line-up was reinforced by Velnias who joined 6 months later. It seems nearly impossible to find someone who'd be suitable for us since nowadays respectable worthy individuals are very rare - only those may join the Slaughtercult. That's why we only have a session bassist. Since the end of the recordings (of "The Pest Called Humanity" >b) Ariovist rests in the past. It's uncertain who'll take his place...Late '99 we recorded our first official release "The Pest Called Humanity", which was self financed and produced.

2 How did you come up with such a bandname?!? I guess you thought long on it...?

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult stands for own satanic and nihilistic beliefs. This existence along with a conspiracy for raw black metal is carved deep into our hearts, to keep the true spirit alive. Unlike some bastards who take the band name out of the lyrics, or in general someone elses work. We thought about the banner and label for Slaughtercult. To put it in simple understandable words: the union of great powers...

3 In the review of "The Pest Called Humanity" (issue 2), I wrote that there are a lot of male vocalists who can learn from Onielar. I never heard such aggressive female vocals in black metal...

Whoa, don't you think that some naked bitches on the cover and sweet female vocals are black metal? Fuck these gay moron. Slaughtercult consists of Onielar (Guitar + Vox) and Velnias (Guitar), we do not go by gender. Our intention is to manifest our superior hate. As proud individuals we have managed to accomplish these first five manifestations. The reason why you have never heard such aggressive female vocals is because most females associated with the current scene are shit-sniffers who infest black metal with heavy keyboards or lousy clean vocals. A mighty fuck-off to all the weaklings at this point, who made the once proud and hateful circles public...

4 Ariovist was the drummer on "The Pest...", though he "rests in past" now...Suicide, I presume? Do you already have a new drummer? A steady line-up?

Ariovist did something far more worse than committing suicide. With every day he turned more and more into what we despise the most: a filthy human being. So, he died the musical death. The line-up for the upcoming second chapter will be the black heart of D.N.S.: Onielar and Velnias along with two session members. At the moment we are rehearsing with a new drummer, but he will definitely not be part of the studio-recordings. It's merely intended to work live with him.

5 I know this question is a bit superfluous, but what are the lyrics all about? Who's responsible for them?

In general the two of us are writing down ideas/thoughts, which first only exist as vivid pictures or mere images from long journeys through the vast realms, which we call our true home. Although both of us are contributing to the lyrics, it's up to Onielar to decide which ones suit the songs best. A quick glance at each of the tracks...

Ars Moriendi: The opener deals with a misanthropic being which grows along with the darkness imbedded in it's power. Only real and unmoveable ideologies can be immortalized and strong.

Slaughtercult: Written in a tongue of the deeper world about the distinct act of eleminating a life.

The Pest Called Humanity: The third track is a spoken curse for the perishing of all unworthy lifeforms. A curse for the downfall and decline of mankind. Signed with the seal of blood.

Saldor: Seen through the eyes of a great vast forest. Saldor tells of the procedure of a decaying humanity.

Centuries of Mine: The last track is the vivid description of a world long forgotten by the greatest pestilence. Yet still existing in the "souls" of the greater race.

The lyrics have not been printed since the album was self financed. Get in touch with us and we will write down the lyrics on request.

6 Some other question now! What's your thought on the German Black Metal scene? And are you familiar with the Belgian scene?

Well, we've had some contact with some Belgian labels. Shiver Recs. is probably the biggest one. What we go in return didn't really satisfy our taste. Of course ENTHRONED is a more or less famous band, but other than that we are not familiar with the Belgian scene. Our own so called scene is to a great extend nothing but a joke. There are so many "awesome" bands, which are pushed by labels who do not have a fucking clue what really dark and aggressive black metal sounds like.

7 Which bands definitely deserve your respect? And which certainly not?

Hah, good question. Viewing the "scene" from quite some distance, we refuse to mention any names of the huge list of disappointments. The days when you were excited because the new album of this or that band was released are over. Nowadays one should be happy if that band stayed somewhat true to it's origin and did not "musically progress". What a huge pile of excrements (=pile of shit >b). Whatever happened to those killer compilations where one great band's track followed another awesome track? There was time when it was possible to order the stuff of a band whose name you have never heard of before without the risk of wasting your hard earned cash. Here's the second mighty fuck-off to those who ruined the "underground", the labels who advertise the shittiest band as great black metal and the faggots who produce it.

8 Lots of black metal bands don't use (or stop using...) corpse-paint, spikes,... because of the large amount of trendies nowadays and they don't want to be considered as a a part of this. Do you think they are right? How do you see that? Do you consider corpse-paint,...as a necessity for a black metal band?

What can we say? Corpse-paint, spikes, swords and axes are a part of black metal. Yes, a warrior can choose and change his uniform, but you can easily see the differences. We don't change our ways just because some scrotum nibblers look like clowns or take their corpse-paint pictures in the sunlight. This "mask" is necessary,'cause it shows the real face of a rather violent and sadistic being. Giving up these traditions means surrendering to the masses. Those who have changed their corpse-paint or have lost it have previously changed their allegiance.

9 I bet that humanity is the first thing you'd like to get rid of on this world, so I'll ask you what's the second thing...?

Really long time ago the world had a healthy skin upon which soon all sorts of lifeforms and parasites emerged. Of all the plagues and pestilences humanity managed to create their own path towards destruction. Congratulations, mankind certainly is the highest of all lifeforms. Insignificant and blind, minor creatures which need to be wiped out. Once they have been obliterated, so many things would change. Everything that has been built up during the course of mankind's amazing evolution would again vanish. The second thing would be to get rid of our own human shapes. Why wear a mask once you've returned to where you came from?

10 A question for every German band... Do you prefer German or Belgian beer? And what are your favorite brands?

Every once in a while Slaughtercult attends a local event which doesn't really matter, simply because where ever you go you'll get one or two different brands. Since black metal is war, there is only one possible brand: Slaughtercult consumes WARSTEINER !!! Still, beer is what the majority enjoys, speaking for ourselves we enjoy our own company with wine by far more than a crowded club.

11 Did you already play some gigs with D.N.S.?

Although we had several offers to perform live at numerous occasions, we never got around to actually play a gig. At first we had to find one another, grow together as a band to perform and live out what Slaughtercult stands for. Once this point was accomplished Ariovist already showed that he would not be with us all the way. As soon as we have a line-up that is able to play live, we will carry the madness up on stage.

12 What can we expect of D.N.S. in the future? New demo? Debut album? Gigs?

The second chapter is our next goal. It should be available sometime 2001. The new stuff sounds a shitload more mature, yet still capturing the right elements for extreme art. More than likely it will be a self financed and produced full length album. Four new tracks have been composed. Due to the daily crap that others call life, we have been thrown a little off track, but we will work harder in order to not push the release date too far into the next year. Who knows what the future will happen, maybe there are some gigs next year???

13 The last one...who's your favorite Deutsche Schlager Sänger?

...in Germany there are no more Schlagersänger! They have all been killed due to wimpdom after being tortured by listening to their own shit...Hey, besides Metal and Classic there's nothing else!

14 Ok, that's all...you may end with your own words!
