	Emperor Magazine No.2 Aug. 2004 Interview by Hasryin -Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult…What a great fuckin' name!! quite long too though..but what the fuck as long as the music is excellent…that's what matters right ? Any way who thought of the name and who are the member from the beginning until the present?.. DNS: The name symbolizes a union of great, infernal, unholy powers. Entwined, molded together through dust and time, utmost conviction and a conspiracy for raw black metal. Nourished and still feeding upon the very essence of life as well as the falsity of mankind. Back in 1997 when the two founding members Onielar (Git & Vox) and Ariovist (drums) where reinforced by Velnias (Git) it was time to give the newly born legion a name. During the course of time, Ariovist was replaced by Horrn (drums since 2001). Long time session bassist Grigorr parted in order for permanent horde member Emporonorr (bass since 2002) to complete a stable line up. Besides these two line up changes nothing has changed since day one ! Slaughtercult stands for pure fucking black metal. That was true for 1997 and has remained so until today ! -Oh..sorry..i forgot asking who are answering my questions ? DNS: How impolite ! Your questions are answered by the entire Slaughtercult legion. One replies for all! One speaks with many tongues ! This is no solo project, it is a union of proud warriors who share similar interests and thoughts. -Correct me if I'm wrong but the band's first live battle was on March 16th, 2002…So what was the environment at that time ? Do you really have a very good time at that time ?How about today ? DNS: Assuming that "environment" means the circumstances of that first gig compared to more recent bloodstained live battles - it is easily answered. The very first gig was without a bass player. The first live battle is unknown territory. Without experience mistakes happen. One is more focused on playing somewhat tight, however nowadays we got used to stages. We have enough experience to cope with mistakes, technical difficulties and so on. Ofcorpse Slaughtercult will never be a 100% tight performing band, after all it is pure fucking black metal. We are only to some extend dedicated musicians. The most important aspect of a live show is the dedication of the performer. Slaughtercult celebrates blasphemous black metal on stage! We are using skulls, inverted crosses, crush symbols of Christ on stage and spill blood, which represents our thoughts upon life itself. We have grown as a legion! -Any bad moments during a tour in your life previously and presently ? Can you share with us or do you prefer to make a little secrets ?? DNS: We prefer to make "little secrets". No, honestly. There are ofcorpse "bad moments" in our lives. But these moments are shared with trustworthy individuals in person not via interviews or email. - Slaughtercult re-entered the studio during the second half of 2003. For the fourth time trusting into the capabilities of long time friend and producer A. Rave….Who is he any way ? What can you tell briefly about him ? is he also a fanatic black metal freaks??!! DNS: A. Rave has been with us since the early days. He has recorded absofuckinglutely every release of Slaughtercult. Furthermore he travels with us as our live performance technician when ever he finds the time to do it. In addition he is a very skilful musician who plays guitar for one of the most technical death metal bands around, namely "Pavor" ! Not just a valuable "producer" but also a long time companion! -Any bad temper during rehearse a song ? Is the band really into this kind of music (black metal) very seriously..? DNS: No we are not really into black metal, we prefer Brit Pop. Fuck that, Slaughtercult has declined two dozen contract offers. We have self financed as well as produced every CD release so far. We have stayed loyal to our traditional black metal orientated style for three albums now. Rehearsal very much depends on the current state of mind of each member. It has the power to vitalize and even to some point elevate the spirit. We are very much into this kind of "music" otherwise we would not have done it for so many years now. This question would have never been asked if you had experienced a bloodstained live battle ! We breathe and bleed Black Metal ! It is no hobby, trend, or pathetic attempt to belong to some movement ! Black Metal has found its way to enrich our way of life. This extreme musical style was able to meet our extreme world views and individual occult thought patterns. -what kind of attitude or discipline when the band entering the studios ? DNS: As previously mentioned we have been working with the same producer since the very first release. As Slaughtercult consists of four individuals each one of us has a different interpretation of discipline. In general the atmosphere is very relaxed, as we are constantly working in a familiar studio. What begins like a pleasant day in the studio turns to an irritated situation at some point. Nevertheless, we have always managed to reach our darkened goals in time. -Any latest merchandise that you want to share with the readers and can you please state in your both e mail and snail mail ? DNS: In stock we have the sophomore release "FOLLOW THE CALLS FOR BATTLE" (CD,LP,MC), the split mLP with Luxemburg's DONKELHEET, as well as the current album "NOCTURNAL MARCH" (CD). Names which we have not chosen ourselves ? Just like we were never asked if we would like to receive or resent the precious gift of life ! Our attitudes play an important role within the music of Slaughtercult. We are drawn back characters ! We have created our own "world". We do not want and certainly do not allow any mere filthy human beings to invade this "kingdom". Insignificant they are to us. Within our ranks and allies we are pleasant individuals. But dare ye not to cross our border - for none shall be able to endure. Bad habits ? Asking for our good habits would be easier and shorter to answer! -What's your greatest fear ? The band split up may be ? DNS: Fear ? What is there to fear ? Without life even death may die ! An often quoted phrase " only death is real ". If only death is real, reality has already died. Those having experienced the abysmal chasms of humanity, those having faced the threshold to worlds beyond, those who have even dared to set foot across this threshold will only fear time itself. The spiritual ascendance knows only one fear… time ! For time constantly passes us by. Merciless, ungrateful, uncaring about fate and destiny. Time, great Lord and master, death defying - life denying ! The ever flowing stream ! -Any member in the band has family to feed and bills to pay ? In that case DNS is some sort like part time job? What do you have in mind ? DNS: Whoa, we do not have to feed anyone but ourselves! All of us agree that this world is already overpopulated!!! Obviously we do have to "work" during the daily hell called life. Slaughtercult however is not a part time job! It has always been the more important part for us. Black Metal was never meant to pay bills. There is no glory and fortune in music based upon occult theories and believes. Money can only be found amongst the majority of bleating human sheep. Slaughtercult is not a guiding shepherd. Slaughtercult does not follow the well tread out path. Our path is a dusty road, unpaved and against the stream ! -You've said the band is an independent black metal band?? Why is that and what are your reasons saying such a words ? DNS: The reason is very, very obvious! Despite numerous contract offers from around the world - serious offers not just be minor labels, but also well known international labels - we have remained unsigned ! We are independent because we can decide when and especially what we release. No one can force us to do something just because it is part of bargain. Anyone purchasing our merchandise knows that exactly this hard earned money is directly invested into the next blasphemous work of Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult. So to speak we are our own masters ! -Any ideas or plan to go to the East especially in Asia to tour ? What are your thought if your desire to go somewhere are fulfill ?? DNS: Being an independent horde it is not easy to get good concert offers. Major labels always send their signed bands on tour. Totally ignoring the quality or composition of each band. It is very much unlikely for us to leave European borders. It certainly would be great to see other places, but the further the distance the more unlikely it is to happen. -Where can we find you guys through e mail and snail mail ? If you don't mind your or other members in the band handphones ?? DNS: Haha, great what's next - personal signed band shots ? Forget about the mobile phone number, especially since one half of us do not even own one! Our postal address as well as email contact is stated a few questions prior to this one. Ofcorpse messages for other members will be forwarded. But those two options to contact us is all you need. -So what do you think about black metal bands today ? Do really see it as a development or revolution in underground scene ? In all honestly do you think some of the bands (BM) are not worthy to form a BM band ? DNS: Honestly and frankly speaking, absofuckinglutely yes !!! We have stopped following the black metal movement many years ago. There was a time when reading a mailorder catalogue, or visiting the backroom of a tiny, smelly underground shop only had a small selection. Merely a few albums to choose from. But no matter what you decided to buy it was good. Those releases were able to capture the spirit of black metal ! Some years later, the great flood began. Every moron formed at least one so called "true" BM band. The once proud "scene" turned more and more into a foul, stenching swamp. A shitload of bands emerged. Overnight there were hundreds more. It spread like a fungus. The human rank and file had discovered Black Metal as their "new saviour". Once based on occult, satanic feelings it quickly turned into pseudo-evil, party loving teenager crap ! Musical excrements which have nothing in common with our interpretation of traditional black metal ! Take a look at todays underground zines and mailorder shops ... how many of these bands do you know by name ? How many have you actually heard ? How many of these unworthy bands have gone beyond demo tapes and the debut album ? The answer is simply...just a very small percentage ! Most of them break up and turn into what they tried to escape: filthy human beings. Only those with a truely black heart, those who have carved the conspiracy for occult black metal deep into their skin will prevail. This is our honest opinion ! Slaughtercult as well as a few extraordinary hordes have stayed loyal to the traditional values of Black Metal. Fuck, all the party loving bleating sheep! Fuck, their pathetic attempts to capture the spirit of an entire way of life! The strong will prevail! Our path continues no matter of their existence ! -But some bands don't want to admit it… DNS: Admit what ?? That they are too many lousy bands ? That every trendy fuck tries to elevate himself to a higher level by adopting a way of life which he is not capable of understanding ? Respectively to cope with ! -Nevertheless tell us some bands that you're in contact with currently that have excellent demo(s)/album(s)… DNS: Certainly there has been lots of contact in the past. However, they are only a few dedicated hordes we stay in touch with. For example, our Dutch comrades Fluisterwoud and Sauron, US antichrist horde Pyre and the kult ov shadows Demoncy... -In all seriousness what do you think of some bands using females as their main vocals or forming a black metal bands ? Do you encourage them or give them some credits about it ? tell us what are your thought ? DNS: Having a female "leader" this question has been asked numerous times. Upon the great vast battlefield do you think it really matters who's blade swiftly strikes down the enemy ? Slaughtercult is way beyond the mere reduction of genders. We, as proud warriors, stand united shoulder by shoulder, sword by sword. We do not respect the gender itself, we respect spiritual greatness. No matter of gender, skin or ethnic background - a human being remains a human being - filthy, insignificant and worthless ! Only the self crowned I, which elevates itself to higher spheres of existence matters. We do not encourage anyone to form a black metal band. However, we do encourage several "bands" to quit !!! Oh, ... and even if you do not have any "females" in your line-up, quit anyway! Thanks, we appreciate your cooperation ! -Witches , black magics , witch doctors , supernatural powers are some of interesting things that happens/exists everyday around us …actually the stuff I mentions really existed around thousands of year ago… But hell!!..some people didn't even bother to believe it…So what are your reactions ?? DNS: The belief in such "supernatural phenomenon" has died over the course of centuries. Mankind has constantly descended to a lower level of existence. Degenerating to more primitive, animalistic behaviours. The majority is unable to think beyond their "weekend behaviour" and daily work. Thinking back in history one can find a huge amount of great philosophers, poets, politicians, inventors or in general superior masterminds! It is no secret, with every century the number of these masterminds has decreased ! Mankind trusts in technology and believes in mass media. We are still breathing this ancient spirit. We seek out the shadow of centuries. Places which still echo times gone by. We are aware that the "occult" has many "shapes and faces". Self ascendance is a long and lonely path to walk. First of all the ordinary human mind is not capable of thinking beyond non-materialistic views, second humans are not able to leave the well tread out path. They can not swim upstream. And third... occultism is not for masses, it is reserved for individuals! Believe in yourself, trust only what you have experienced yourself, … -So what are DNS really wants in the near future ? Make a lot of albums/cd's before getting too old to play instruments ?? DNS: We shall continue upon this path as long as we can. In case we are no longer able to play our instruments we shall find another way to torment others. In the meantime we are looking forward to the LP and MC version of "Nocturnal March". -Last dark words ?
